About Sydney
Sydney Brouillard-Coyle (pronouns Ney/Nem/Nir) is a queer, transgender, non-binary, asexual person located in Canada/Turtle Island, with a deep passion for social justice. In 2023, ney published nir first book, “A Pocket Guide to Pronouns”, and ney are in the process of writing several new nonfiction and fiction works. Ney are an avid reader and writer.
A fun fact about Sydney is that ney have a tortoiseshell cat named Natasha!
Sydney is currently a PhD student in the Faculty of Education at Western University, specializing in Critical Policy, Equity, and Leadership Studies. Nir research explores the importance of kinship and artistic communities for trans, gender diverse, and asexual individuals. In August 2024, ney completed a Masters of Arts in Social Justice & Community Engagement at Wilfrid Laurier University. Nir thesis examined queer representation in the young adult novel "Rainbow Islands". Prior to this, ney obtained a Bachelor of Music (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts in Women & Gender Studies at the University of Windsor, along with a minor in Political Science.
Sydney has worked and volunteered with numerous queer non-profit organizations since 2020, including in roles of peer support, research, mental health, and education. In 2022, ney ran for City Council in the Windsor Ward 7 municipal election. Ney have also served on numerous committees, clubs, and organizations dedicated to issues of gender and sexual justice, equity and diversity, housing, mental health, and youth voices.
As a musician, Sydney has participated in numerous community ensembles. Ney offer private music lessons for both piano and singing, opportunities to hire them as a collaborative or solo pianist, and regular concerts in Essex and London. Ney believe in the power of music to bring together communities and to advocate for social justice.
Finally, Sydney is honoured to share nir lived experience and expertise as Director and Founder of Rainbow Allyship, an organization dedicated to providing education about the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. This includes Allyship Training programs, Public Workshops, Keynotes, and Consultations. Sydney believes in the power of solidarity, education, and community mobilization towards building safer spaces for equity-deserving communities.

Throughout the year, Sydney attends numerous markets, Pride events, and other gatherings for artisans and entrepreneurs. In addition to selling copies of nir book, “A Pocket Guide to Pronouns”, Sydney brings nir Pride Shop to help people access affordable, fun Pride merch while directly supporting a queer and trans person.
